This weekend I went to Salt Lake City to cheer on the Bruins at the first ever Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships. Boy was it exciting!
Utah has absolutely wonderful gymnastics fans. Over 10,000 of them came out to cheer on their team. They truly made the environment special- I now understand why Utah loves competing at home. I have never been to a gymnastics meet with a closed to sold out arena. Combined with Stanford sitting next to us, we were truly a small blue section in a sea of red.
On to the drama, as the number one seed, we started on floor, meaning we ended on beam. As a rule of thumb, beam has the narrowest margin for error, and you don’t really want to fight for a championship on beam. Yet, after three rotations we were down .300. As I watched the leader begin to falter on their event, my heart began to race. Our second girl fell twice. But the remaining Bruins held calm and took the team title by a mere .05. It was beyond doubt a spectacular evening.
Go Bruins!
