A Solar Afternoon

I cannot believe that it is already the end of 8th week, spring quarter of my second year. It is hard to believe how quickly this quarter, and this year has flown by. I cannot wait for summer, but I also  really do not want to leave UCLA and Southern California! I have had an awesome quarter that I have shared with some amazing friends, and all that was on display over the weekend for the Solar Eclipse. Those of you from the west coast probably saw it, but for those of you who are not , it was a pretty cool thing to see. At UCLA, there were many groups gathering to watch the eclipse including a massive crowd on top of Janss steps. My friends and I took a slightly different approach to watching the eclipse. We remembered that the roof of the Math and Sciences building is accessible, so we decided to head up to the roof to watch the eclipse and make an afternoon out of it. We walked to the building with our make-shift eclipse viewers made of an old cardboard box in tow, cameras, and food and drinks. When we reached the roof we were surprised to find that only a few other people had the same idea as us, so we essentially had the roof to ourselves. We had an amazing view of campus, as well as a front row seat facing west to the sun. We scrounged up some chairs and sat down, and just hung out while trying to watch the eclipse without torching our retinas! A solar eclipse does not happen every day so it was great to see, but it was even better to experience it with my close friends, while sitting on the roof of a building. It was so great to take a break from the craziness of the quarter for a few hours and just hang out. It was definitely a memory I will always remember. Go Bruins!
