My sunny summer in Westwood is shaping up! Spring quarter ended June 15th – I went home to San Diego for a hot second – then returned to my apartment for the Westwood summer of my dreams.

We’re talking…
reading for fun.
frequenting Upside Down for a week straight for the best iced lattes
signing up to take the GRE in August – EEP! Gotta study for that…
trying out this punchy sour cream and onion potato salad
strolling through campus to keep enjoying the views
going to a concert in Frogtown, LA and running into Mac DeMarco
researching grad school programs I might be interested in – another EEP!
reorganizing the apartment and resting with the roommates
planning some future events for a student org I’m part of – the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute
feeling the Ridgecrest earthquakes!!!!
buying a cast iron pan and griddling peaches
seeing the movies Booksmart and Lion King at Century City Mall
making this silly rendition of ramen + carbonara
(are you picking up this emphasis on food?)
watching a Hulu production being filmed on campus
and learning loads about architecture!
In fact, the primary reason I stayed in Westwood this summer was to take the Jumpstart Summer Institute for Architecture at UCLA. It’s a 4-week course introducing college students to architecture, and includes teaching and practice with theory, software, drawings, modeling, and field trips. The instructors are talented and empowering, I’ve made new friends with visiting students, and the program is helping me make the decision to pursue architecture after undergrad. I’m currently studying Civil & Environmental Engineering at UCLA, but architecture was something I’ve always been curious about. Here’s a snap of work in the studio at Perloff Hall:
Jumpstart has been and blast and I’m sad for it to come to a close. But there’s great news — Fall quarter doesn’t start until Sept 26th. My Westwood summer is still very much in session.
