The Clothesline Project is a national project raising awareness against gender-based violence, particularly sexual violence against women.  The chapter here at UCLA is a student-run organization, and this past week has hosted their annual three-day protest during which members hang t-shirts on with inscribed messages from survivors (or their significant others) of gender violence, the different colors of the shirts representing different categories of gender violence.

Hour-long small-group workshops are also held during the awareness project.  Workshop topics include domestic violence awareness and issues, healthy relationships, and self defense.

It is extremely inspiring for me to see these shirts strewn throughout our quad, using visuals and aesthetics to catch attention and raise awareness amongst the students that pass by this quad to and from class for such important issues.  Passing by these clotheslines remind me of the passion that UCLA students have as they take on these immense projects with such tenacity and resolve.  It is a live example that it only takes a few determined minds to unite and make a difference!
