When Will Applicants Receive Admissions Decisions?

That seems to be the question on all our applicants' minds, and rightly so. I'm sure a lot of you have already heard from some of the other colleges you've applied to for fall 2008, and are anxious to get the decision from UCLA. While I completely empathize with your position, I unfortunately cannot say when admissions decisions will be released. My best recommendation to you is to just keep checking back at the decision site. It's March 17 (Happy St. Patrick's Day!), so you know you'll get the decision in two weeks at the latest, and, if I were a betting woman, I would bet you'll know your admission status at UCLA even sooner than t hat.

In less frustrating news, congratulations to our oustanding Men's Basketball Team! The Bruins are again a #1 seed in the March Madness Tournament. Coach Howland led the Bruins through an amazing season and another Pac-10 Tournament Title, and all of us here at UARS can't wait to watch all the exciting games that are in store for us. First up: UCLA vs. Mississippi Valley State this Thursday. Just like you all can't wait to receive your admissions decisions from our office, I can't wait to see how well our team performs during this "crazy" tournament.

Hi Stacy,

It's not clear to me why UCLA won't simply provide, let's say a 2-3 day window when decisions will be released.

Without such a window, thousands of students have no alternative but to keep on checking every day, which I think is a huge waste of time for everyone and only adds to the anxiety.

As much as I like UCLA, there has to be a better way than this!

Dahvid: SATs are just one of the many, many factors that are taken into consideration in the decision-making process. A stellar SAT score does not guarantee admission, and a less-than-stellar one doesn't mean you won't be admitted.

Andy: I understand how this can be frustrating, but take comfort in knowing that there are about 55,000 students around the country in the same situation as you, and that your wait will be over soon. Hang in there!

Damon: Yes, there are many reasons, but I will just mention the biggest two (in my humble opinion): the freshman evaluation process and the transfer evaluation process are very, very different, and we have a finite amount of staff trained to evaluate transfer applications.

Nancy: Well it sounds like you've already got some great options for Fall 2008, congrats! Welcome to the UC family.

UCLA Fanatic: To my knowledge, TAP students will receive their admissions decisions at the same time as the general transfer population.

This is a frequently asked question. Under "Eligibility in the Local Context" (ELC), the top 4% of students in each participating California high school class will be designated UC-eligible based on the coursework taken while in high school. Although ELC guarantees a space at a UC campus, it does not guarantee that a student will be admitted to the campus or major of their choice. Finally, if students did not attend a school that partcipates in the ELC program or their high school counselor did not submit their name, they are not disadvantaged in the admission process.

Some of my friends were rejected from UCLA for the Fall 2008 quarter, but accepted for Spring 2008. How do I check my admission decision for Spring 2008? It does not say anything about Spring in the Fall rejection letter.

I know students who have received admissions to various Ivies, Chicago, Northwestern and Stanford and did not get into UCLA. I do not know what is going on there but I am encouraging my students to apply outside of the UC system and California, because who knows what they do in the admissions department at UCLA.

Quick question, is there any way at all that you would know anything or could find out whether the Film department has finished calling people for Undergraduate Interviews. I am desperate to know! I've tried contacting the department but I'm guessing they have a lot of people trying to contact them because they have all answering machines. Is there any magical way you could find out? :-) Thanks!
