Welcome New Students! Welcome Back Returning Students!
It's the first week of school and the UCLA campus is a completely different place than it was even a week ago! Summertime on a college campus is an interesting thing. On one hand it's nice because I almost never have to wait in line for anything (a slice of pizza from Ackerman, a cardio machine at the Wooden Center to work off that pizza from Ackerman...), but it's impossible to shake the feeling that something's missing.
That something is you, of course! The students: new and returning, first-years and transfers, it's great to have you here on campus again (or for the first time). Yesterday I went to the UCLA Store and saw so many excited students purchasing academic planners (an excellent tool for succeeding in the fast-paced quarter system!) and UCLA sweatshirts, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones, I got a little teary, I'm not going to lie. I'm so envious of all of you who are just beginning your college experience this week; this is such an exciting time in your lives. Study hard and enjoy every minute of it!

Hi Stacy! My son is a senior at St. Vincent - St. Mary's High School in Akron, OH. It's the school Lebron James went to. He wants to attend UCLA Fall 2008. I was researching blogs to get an idea of campus life in LA. Being from Akron, you know it will be a whole new world for him. I was wondering how difficult it is to get accepted as an out-of-state student. Maybe we could correspond by email. After reading the UCLA site for admissions, it seems there are deadlines approaching already.

Hi Dee,
To learn more about applying to UCLA as an out-of-state student, I would recommend your son check out the following link: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/outofstate.htm. The online UC application (that your son can use to apply to all UC campuses, including UCLA) can be submitted during the month of November 2007 for the 2008-2009 academic year. Best of luck!

Owww, your post reminded me of my school days.
I also feel excited whenever I get to see kids going to college for the first time.
It really is true that these kids should enjoy each and every single day on campus. It will be their blueprint for a promising future.

They always say that high school days are far better than college days. For me, it is absolutely the opposite. I enjoyed more my college days than when i was in high school.
