Transfers: Are You Coming?

Transfer students: You have just about a week (until June 1) to submit your Statement of Intent to Register [SIR]. Visit your New Bruins page, and follow the steps to accept our offer of admission. Transfer students like you make up an important part of the undergraduate student body at UCLA, and we're very proud that UCLA admits the most transfer students of any school in the UC system. If you have any questions, be sure to get in touch with us, either by emailing newbruins@saonet.ucla.edu, or, if there are changes to your record, course schedule, or academic performance, you should head to the New Bruins page and submit a Provisional Problem Form [PPF]. Daniel went over this in his post, but it bears repeating, you know?

Ucla_clothesline_project_2 Right outside of Murphy Hall in Schoenberg Quad, the UCLA Clothesline Project is up through tomorrow. Women (and their relatives) who have been victims of sexual violence created color-coded t-shirts about their experiences. It's an amazing, and incredibly moving, project. Stop by and check it out if you're on campus.

UCLA Spring Sing 2007

Hey guys this is Eric again, UCLA Undergraduate Admission's official photographer/techie. Sorry that the pictures from Spring Sing are a little late, but here they are! They were hand-selected from over 900 photos taken for your viewing pleasure.

Spring Sing was truly an amazing event, and I was impressed by how many people showed up and how great the events were. It was full of fun skits, amazing dancers, talented singers, and energetic performers. The entire tennis court was packed from the bottom all the way up, with even some Bruins waiting for the event for up to ten hours outside!

I highly recommend everyone to go to the event next year. You will not regret it.

UCLA Bruins: First to 100!

P1010017 U-C-L-A Fight, Fight Fight! The UCLA Bruins are the first university in the nation to win 100 NCAA National Championships!

Hi, it's Ginger again. I’m a huge Bruin fan, so today is one of the best days ever for me! At noon today, the Bruins held a huge rally to honor our Women’s Water Polo Team, who won their 6th , and UCLA’s 100th NCAA National Championship. We also celebrated UCLA’s victory over the Trojans in the annual Lexus Gauntlet competition. In the six year history of the Gauntlet, neither athletic program had ever swept its arch rival in football, basketball, and baseball in the same year…until now. UCLA so dominated USC in 2006-07 that our margin of victory was the greatest ever.

Want to know the best thing about today? I got to meet Ben Howland, UCLA’s Men’s Basketball Coach! I like to think of myself as the Bruin basketball team’s sixth man, so getting to meet Coach Howland was incredible. I am confident that next year will be the year that the Bruins win their 12th basketball championship.

As a student at UCLA, I loved our outstanding athletic tradition because it created so much spirit and pride. As an alum, I love the fact that I get to be a part of the Bruin Family for the rest of my life! Choosing the right college is all about finding a place that is the best match for you. UCLA was the perfect match for me, and, as you can see, my love for my school is still strong! Go Bruins!

Hey, Guys, keep up the good work (and I MEAN it)!

The end of your senior year of high school is a unique time, with proms, banquets, award ceremonies, and the growing realization that life is about to change for ever. For some of you this will be your life’s first big transition. All the while, you’re probably sitting in some of the hardest classes you’ve ever tackled, and the last thing you want to hear is us haranguing you about your grades and classes, right? Well, let me give you a little background from our side of the files. This year we denied admission to over 38,000 freshman applicants, the majority of them very bright and hard-working students. We have also received, to date, more than 1,200 appeal requests from this group. Now most of these students would have no trouble succeeding at UCLA; it’s just that we have no room. Therefore we are stuck in the position of being the meanies who tell almost all of these students no a second time. So, with these kids in mind, I don’t have any qualms about our expectations for your senior years. Even if you’re having a hard time of it, buckle down and keep going! You’re certainly no stranger to hard work, else you wouldn’t have gotten to this point in the first place.

Of course, in some cases unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances so come up. If you do end up dropping a class or earning poor grades (3 or more Cs or a 12th grade average below 3.0; login to www.admissions.ucla.edu/decision to see your admission contracts for the whole spiel about "provisional" admission, grades, transcripts, yadda yadda) tell us about it right away. I can’t guarantee that this will save your admission, but the more time you have, the more options we have available to offer you. Report any changes at:

Spring Sing

Do you like fun? Do you like music? Do you like music and fun? If you do, then attending Spring Sing is like hitting the music and fun jackpot!

Hi! My name is Ginger Castle and I am a recruiter and an alum. UCLA’s many traditions helped me become the devoted Bruin that I am today. As a student, one of my favorite events to attend each year was Spring Sing. Talk about tradition! Spring Sing has been around since the 1940’s. Every year, UCLA’s most talented musicians put on a great show at the Los Angeles Tennis Center for a crowd of about 4,200 UCLA Students. Acts like Maroon Five and Linkin Park performed at Spring Sing before they made it big. The Student Alumni Association also presents one musician with the George and Ira Gershwin Lifetime Achievement Award. Past recipients include Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, and James Taylor. Who will win this year? The suspense is killing me. The show also features a group of students called Company who perform hilarious skits and spoofs in between acts. Click on the link below to watch a video of Company’s take on Westside Story. As a future Bruin, Spring Sing is just one of many fun-filled traditions that you can look forward to. I can't think of a better way to spend Quatro de Mayo. Go Bruins!

Summer Orientation!

Orientation_2004_106

So now that you’ve been admitted to the new Bruin Class of 2011, what do you do? Get ready for Summer Orientation! My name is Bank Chantaruchirakorn, and I am an admissions officer for UCLA Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools. I just graduated this past spring, and, prior to working at UARS, I worked for three years at the UCLA Orientation Program as an Orientation Counselor, or “OC”. Orientation is highly recommended for all our students, and over 96% of first-year students attend a session. Why do so many attend? Because it’s both fun and informative. During Orientation you will spend three days on-campus, living in a residence hall and meeting other newly admitted Bruins. You will be a part of a group of about nine students and one OC, who is a current student. Your OC will be with you for the entire three days as a resource, helping you pick out and enroll in classes for fall quarter, answer all your questions, and equip you with the knowledge you will need to maximize your UCLA experience. There are 11 sessions that run throughout July and August. When I attended Orientation (Session 109) back in 2002, it was the first time my UCLA admissions felt real, and it got me eager and excited to come back to campus at the end of September. You’ll be receiving a brochure in late-May that will give you all the information you will ever need about Orientation and how to sign up. Yay for summer!
