Dance Marathon!
Here's a post from UARS student worker and dancer extraordinaire, Sophia Yuan:
Hi! My name is Sophia, and I am currently a fourth year psychology major here at UCLA. I've always been very active in school and within the community, and during my freshmen year, I came across this fantastic student organization: Dance Marathon. From then on, I've been hooked, and I wanted to share with you what UCLA's Dance Marathon is all about. This year, the sixth annual Dance Marathon will be held on Feb. 17-18 at Ackerman Grand Ballroom. Last year, we raised over $270,000 and donated it to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. This is my fourth year participating and my second year on the executive committee, so I can confidently say that I know a little something about this event.
Students sign up to dance for a full 26 hours straight, but that's not the only way they can help Dance Marathon. There are other levels of participation, such as being a "moraler" or a "volunteer". The only requirement for moralers is that they dance for a minimum of three hours (but most moralers stay for MUCH longer). Volunteers help with running different booths during the event. All volunteers are welcome to rock out on the dance floor, too.

Hey, It's great to see what UCLA is doing to help the community, especially those children.
Well, I'm very inspired by what u guys had done and which to do the same, right here in our country (Malaysia). I'm the President for "pack the floor for 24", we're excited of organizing the first ever dance marathon in Malaysia and we planning to make it big. But we need resources and ideas from y'all. From preparation, things we need to look into, program line-up, how the whole event will go about. If u could, we email me some necessary info asap k?..or you could introduce some of your committee would be even better.. Do add me on MSN if u have, chua_leonard@hotmail.com
Thanks.

USD 270,000 is a lot of cash raised by students. I'm interested in knowing how you promoted the whole event. Like did student have T-shirts that they gave those who sponsored them etc. Coz sometimes people have to be encourage or inspired to give. Or was it the idea of a dance marathon that did it. More creative than say, a walk or just a marathon.
